CFC, the specialist insurance provider, pioneer in emerging risk and market leader in cyber, today announces the appointment of Nick Line as Chief Underwriting Officer, to lead underwriting activities across the group. This marks the latest in a series of senior CFC appointments ensuring the business is well positioned for its next exciting chapter of global growth. Line will join the business in 2026, after 28 years at Markel where he has held the role of CUO since 2018.

I am delighted to welcome Nick to our executive team. He combines deep technical knowledge with global leadership experience which will be invaluable as we continue to deliver the highest level of service and expertise to our clients across the world. Louise O’Shea, Group CEO

O'Shea continued: "Markel’s people-powered approach and exceptional customer service align closely with our own culture, this - together with Nick’s commitment to empowering those around him through inclusive leadership - make him a natural fit for CFC.”

Line has worked in the insurance industry since 1997 in both Chief Actuary and Chief Underwriting Officer roles. During his Markel tenure he has supported significant, profitable and sustainable growth in the business through new products, new territories and numerous acquisitions. Over this period Markel has materially increased the volume and diversity of its portfolio, significantly improved its underwriting capabilities and grown its reputation for customer service across its international markets. An enthusiastic sponsor of diversity and inclusion activities, Line recently took over as Chair of the Inclusion @ Lloyd’s committee. He currently sits on the LMA’s CUO Committee.

Markel has been a long-standing supporter of CFC, working materially across CFC’s MGA’s portfolio since 2019, notably on Transaction Liability and Terrorism.

Nick Line said: “In 28 wonderful years at Markel, I’ve had the pleasure of working alongside some of the brightest minds and friendliest people in the industry. However, at this point in my career, I’m excited to begin a new chapter in which I can enhance my learning, develop new skills and be challenged in different ways. It had to be an exceptional opportunity for me to make a move, and that’s why I’m so excited to be joining the CFC team. I have always admired businesses that embody innovation, agility and a ‘can-do’ ethos, and CFC is a standout example. I look forward to working with Louise and the broader team to deliver their vision for continued future success.”

CFC’s Chief Performance Officer, Matt Taylor, stepped up as CUO on an interim basis in February 2025.
