As CEO of CFC USA, Justin Camara is helping to drive the next phase of CFC's growth in the US market. In this Meet the Expert, he discusses what makes the US insurance landscape unique, the impact of AI, and how brokers can stand out in today’s market.
What drew you to CFC at this stage in your career?
CFC has a fantastic success story in the market. Before joining, I worked at a capacity provider which gave me a front-row seat to CFC’s growth over the years. Watching the business evolve and seeing its impact on brokers, clients and the wider market gave me a real appreciation for what makes CFC different.
What stood out was that CFC has never been content with doing things the way they've always been done. Innovation is part of CFC’s DNA, whether that's creating new products, embracing technology or finding better ways to solve problems for brokers and policyholders. I wanted to be aligned with both the people and the ambition of the business, and that willingness to challenge convention and continually push the industry forward is incredibly exciting.
The US market is highly competitive. What makes the market unique, and what’s been the key to success?
The US market is unique because success is built on local knowledge and strong relationships. Every region has its own industries, risks and ways of doing business, so understanding those nuances is critical.

We know brokers are highly specialized and value trading partners who understand their market. That's something CFC has always done well.
We've invested heavily in understanding what US brokers and their clients really need, combining strong local relationships with local insight and specialist expertise. That’s the case for cyber in particular, where we've been at the forefront of the market for more than 25 years. Justin Camara, CEO, USA
From emerging risks to new technology, insurance is changing quickly. What will have the biggest impact on brokers in the next few years?
It’s a buzzword but AI will undoubtedly have one of the biggest impacts. AI-powered platforms are making the trading process faster and more efficient, giving brokers more time to work with clients – and that’s an important point.
No matter the extent AI makes insurance easier to access and understand, it won't replace the role of the broker. Insurance remains complex, and clients value trusted advisers who can apply judgement, provide context and help them navigate risk. If anything, as new technologies emerge and risks become more sophisticated, the human side of insurance becomes even more important.
What's one piece of advice you'd give brokers looking to grow their business and stand out in a competitive market?
Focus on adding value. That starts with developing a deeper understanding of your clients, the risks they face and the solutions that can help them succeed. The most successful brokers are trusted advisers who apply a human touch.
Relationships matter just as much between brokers and underwriters. That's why we're continuing to invest in local teams across the US. Justin Camara, CEO, USA
When brokers can quickly connect with someone who understands their market, it removes barriers and helps them deliver for their clients faster.
Tell us one thing people might be surprised to learn about you.
Most people are surprised to learn that I'm a avid motocross rider.
Living on the West Coast gives me plenty of opportunities to get outdoors and enjoy it. When I'm not on a bike, you'll usually find me on a golf course or exploring Napa Valley's wineries. It's a great way to switch off, recharge and make the most of where I live.
