CFC, the specialist insurance provider and pioneer in emerging risk, announces the introduction of affirmative AI coverage within its Media policy, effective on 30th July.

The update forms part of CFC’s wider program to embed affirmative AI coverage across its portfolio, ensuring customers have clear, explicit policy language that reflects its growing use.

As AI-assisted content creation becomes increasingly routine within media, publishing, marketing and creative services, businesses are seeking greater certainty around how their insurance responds to AI-related liability exposures. This update confirms that involving AI in media activities does not prevent coverage from responding, helping to reduce ambiguity for brokers and policyholders alike. Where AI has contributed to content creation, the policy can still respond to defamation, IP infringement and other media and professional liability claims.

Alongside the media liability enhancements, CFC has also updated the policy’s cyber coverages with affirmative AI language. Insureds now benefit from the same level of cyber protection available through CFC’s flagship Cyber Proactive Response (CPR) product, while gaining greater certainty around how established cyber triggers apply in an AI context – for example when AI hallucinations or LLM prompts result in unexpected computer systems downtime.

AI is no longer an emerging technology for media companies. It is already embedded in the way many businesses create, manage and distribute content. Nick Line, Chief Underwriting Officer

“Our role is to ensure our products evolve alongside our customers’ businesses. These enhancements provide greater clarity around how coverage responds when AI is involved, while also addressing new cyber and privacy exposures arising from AI adoption. Together they deliver a more complete and relevant solution for the modern media industry. It is another example of CFC leading from the front as technology continues to reshape the risk landscape.”

With more than 20 years' experience serving media and entertainment businesses, CFC's Media policy was designed to reduce coverage gaps by bringing together a broad range of protections within a single solution. The policy combines multimedia and professional liability cover, including defamation, intellectual property infringement and contractual liability, with cyber and privacy protection and general liability cover. The introduction of affirmative AI coverage builds on that foundation, ensuring the policy remains aligned with the evolving needs of media businesses as AI adoption accelerates.
